The rational behind this publishing effort: The peer-reviewed publication world that many of us have become accustomed to and that we needed to publish in, within the academic world, has become stilted, difficult to use and less available to many interested readers. There are huge profits to be made by publishing houses who “rent” articles to academic libraries, which have a captive author base who need to publish to get tenure and promotion. The peers who review submitted authors can be difficult to find necessitating long delays between submission and publication. Some new peer reviewed publications are also more interested in subvention fees charged for articles than they are the peer review process and therefore motivated to push articles through the process, leading to quality problems. Sometimes potential authors who want to see their work make a difference in our fields are discouraged from entering this process, especially when their final product can only be accessed by readers who have access to academic libraries, or who wish to pay download fees. These factors have opened up an avenue for publishing that can be timely, accessible to all at no cost and where articles can be commented on by readers and where authors can obtain feedback from the community.

This open-access, on-line publication venue, is dedicated to geophysical archaeology articles by authors who want to see their work published with as little delay as possible. Notification of publication will be circulated to a wide community of interested readers, who can then post comments and suggestions visible to all.

While the editorial board will review articles before they are posted, they will not go through a laborious peer-review process. It is therefore a medium for those who want to see their work read in a timely way by colleagues, commented on, and shared as widely as possible. It is an ideal way to publish work that is focused on a very targeted audience, which are the subscribers to this publishing venture.
